New PUKKELPOP names. A touch of nostalgia and some extraordinary new acts!

E-mail Print
Pukkelpop is approaching rapidly, which means we can reveal more new names that will be on the already impressive Pukkelpop bill. From today on you will be able to find the Pukkelpop timetable on our website.

This year Pukkelpop presents a remarkable piece of musical history.  Where would all the Boiler Room and Dance Hall acts be without Kraftwerk? How would Nirvana have sounded without The Jesus Lizard? How innovative was the Faith No More sound before their more solid work? To these you can add the British shoegaze sensation My Bloody Valentine, one of the most influential bands of the nineties. In 2007, after ten years of radio silence, the band’s decision to reunite met with overwhelming approval and the band became more successful than before. Their Pukkelpop show will be their Belgian stage debut after their reunion.

Bands like Dinosaur Jr., Squarepusher, Tortoise, The Get up Kids and Face To Face, which have already played an important role in the past, are stronger than ever in 2009 and cannot be denied a slot at Pukkelpop.

We’re not only looking back and offer you top acts from the current music scene: Razorlight, Booka Shade, Peaches, Air Traffic, Crookers, Klaxons, Zombie Nation, Puppetmastaz, Blood Red Shoes, Patrick Wolf, The Juan Maclean and Dizzee Rascal.  We’re also inviting fresh faces to the festival: Passion Pit, Glasvegas, Asher Roth, Yuksek, The Airborne Toxic Event, The Temper Trap, Kissy Sell Out, Metric, Buraka Som Sistema, Delphic and Birdy Nam Nam

Those of you who like to dig a bit deeper will discover gems like Telepathe, Micachu & The Shapes, Port O’Brien, Jon Hopkins, Soap & Skin, The Invisible, Kap Bambino en Hanne Hukkelberg.

Has your mouth started watering yet? It’ll get even better since we’re constantly on the lookout for more great Pukkelpop bands!

Unfortunately Mew have cancelled their Pukkelpop show. They prefer to tour in the States.

Check our new Pukkelpop website. From today on you will be able to discover the Pukkelpop timetable.

This year’s Ruisrock continues to showcase numerous newcomers. The festival’s fifth stage, Converse Stage, expands Ruisrock’s programme to a more alternative direction.

On Friday, July 3rd, Converse Stage hosts two Turku-based bands: Magenta Skycode , set to release their sophomore album, and Callisto, who are playing their first gigs with their new vocalist.

On Saturday, the stage features the most fussed about electro newcomer Le Corps Mince de Francoise , energetic garage pop foursome Pintandwefall, ska reggae band The Capital Beat and electro pop group Regina , who released their final breakthrough album ”Puutarhatrilogia” this spring.

On Sunday, Converse Stage witnesses performances from Swedish indie folk duo First Aid Kit , the top name of the Finnish album charts, Anna Puu , and shoegazing rock group Joensuu 1685 .

”Converse has lately co-operated with, for example, Summercase and Lowlands festivals but this is our first ever collaboration with a Finnish festival. We’ve also launched sneaker collections inspired by Nirvana, AC/DC and Pink Floyd, so co-operation with rock events seems like a natural continuum”, says Converse Finland.

Ruisrock’s final foreign and domestic additions will be announced in the end of May.
